The second in the series of Old Fife books, this gives a vivid snapshot of what the towns and villages in Fife looked like fifty or a hundred years ago.
Nostalgia for the past tends to see things through rose-coloured spectacles, but the old houses which now look picturesque would have had little in the way of today's home comforts. Communities were close-knit by necessity as much as choice: with little or no state benefit, families who were out of work were given a helping hand by more fortunate neighbours.
This selection of around 80 images from old postcards includes Aberdour, Burntisland, Cowdenbeath, Dysart, East Neuk, Kirkcaldy, Largo, Leuchars, Mars training ship, St Andrews, Wemyss villages, and collieries in Buckhaven, Denbeath and Lochgelly. Each image comes with an explanatory caption.
